Display controller board repair

In modern LCD monitors, one of the key elements is the display controller board (T-CON chip). In fact, it interconnects the monitor matrix and control board, transmitting a digitized signal to the display. Repair of the display controller board may be necessary in case of various distortions of the picture, but since the visible manifestations of failure are similar to other breakdowns (for example, failure of the control board itself or problems with the power supply), only specialists of a computer service center can determine the true cause.

When do I need a display controller board repair?

Repair may be necessary if you start noticing the following problems on your monitor:

  • When you turn on the monitor, the backlight is on, but there is no picture.
  • The entire screen has a gray background and light streaks.
  • The display has a succession of vertical colored stripes.
  • The picture is shown in a color negative.
  • One of the colors is missing or dominant.
  • The monitor turns on, the picture is normal, but it disappears after just a couple of minutes.
  • The picture is too light or vice versa, too dark and cannot be adjusted through the monitor interface.

In the case of such visual effects – contact a specialist. If you do not know LCD monitor’s mechanism thoroughly and do not possess the skills of top-level soldering, the attempt to repair the display controller board yourself may result in other microchips failures and complete unsuitability of the monitor for further restoration. Therefore it is better to refuse unskilled attempts to repair the malfunction and rely on the professionals who can accurately identify the problem and quickly fix it.
